Righteous in the eyes of God

Do you ever wonder how God sees you? If so, there is one thing you can be sure of—He doesn’t see you the way others see you. Neither does He see you the way you see yourself. If you are a born-again Christian, God only sees you through the blood sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ, not your sins, weaknesses, or shortcomings. The moment you became born again you were made eternally righteous by faith.

We should only see ourselves as righteous in God’s eyes. But when we look at ourselves through the flesh, we will focus on our sins and flaws. Then the enemy jumps on the bandwagon and points out all the things that make us feel imperfect, dirty, and worthless. In other words, he amplifies our wrongs and condemns us. This is his crafty way of convincing us that we must somehow work to earn our salvation and right-standing with God.

However, once God declares a blessing or a covenant, it is forever. God blessed the children of Israel when they sacrificed animals as peace offerings to Him for their sins and flaws. Since He is a just and perfect God, someone had to pay the penalty for the sins of mankind. The sacrifices of animals served merely as a symbol, foreshadowing the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Exodus 20:21-24).

Jesus, a God who became a man, loved us so much that He came to die for us. When we look at Jesus, we see a God we can understand and identify with. Jesus is the great intercessor between God and man. His sacrifice eternally paid the sin debt of mankind—once and for all. How can the enemy accuse a person who knows he or she is eternally right with God?

While our sins will not cause God to stop loving us or reverse our right-standing with Him, they can cause us to live in (cursed) negative circumstances here on earth. We don’t have to remain sinners simply because we are born sinners. We can be born again into His righteousness by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We cannot be righteous without Him. We are only made right through our faith in Jesus Christ.

We can either receive God’s blessings or walk away from them. We can read His Word and receive the blessings He has already given us through His promises. One of those blessings is the gift of righteousness through Jesus Christ.
