Free from a mindset of sin

June 6, 2014

We can be free from sin consciousness once we understand the magnitude of Jesus’ sacrifice. When He endured the suffering of his crucifixion, He drew upon Himself our rightful punishment for sin.

Jesus came to the earth, in a human body, to give Himself as a sacrificial offering for our sins (Hebrews 2:14, 15, AMP).

When He was lifted up on the Cross, He drew all judgment to Himself (John 12:30-32).  He took on our judgment and the punishment we deserved for sin.  He draws us to Him because of what He has done for us. We are freed from bondage when we realize what Jesus has done for us.

The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Hebrews to Jewish people who were accustomed to living according to the Law of Moses. Animals were used as a sacrifice for sin. However, Paul urged them to accept Jesus as the ultimate and final sacrifice for sin once and for all (Hebrews 10:26).

We are made righteous through our faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the Law (Romans 4:13, 14).  The Law of Moses produced sin consciousness.  The Law was given to show people their sinfulness (Romans 3:20, Galatians 3:19, AMP).  God wants us to be free from the bondage of trying live by the Law of Moses.  No one was able to keep the Law except Jesus.  God wants us to be free from the bondage of trying live by the Law of Moses.

Although, we experience natural consequences of sin, we are no longer charged with sin when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior (Romans 5:12-14, AMP, Romans 4:8)

God does not charge sin to our account. He won’t stop loving us when we sin.  When we don’t believe that Jesus has taken on the judgment for our sin, we live in bondage to sin consciousness.  God said He will write His laws on our hearts and our minds.  When we live by grace, we are led by the Holy Spirit.  We lose the desire to sin once we realize the extent of Jesus’ sacrifice for us.

We deceive ourselves and operate in self righteousness when we think our good behavior makes us righteous.

Our good behavior cannot make us righteous (or right with God) nor can it get us into Heaven.  We are made righteous only by accepting Jesus’ sacrifice and His Lordship by faith.  He is the only way to the Father in Heaven.   God has promised (with emphasis) to no longer remember our sins nor in any way forsake us (Romans 4:8, Hebrews 13:5, AMP).
