Transformation

February 13, 2013

We all have addictions and habits that we can’t seem to break with our own will power. We genuinely want to do what is right, but we continue to struggle with sinful actions. So the question becomes, “Is true transformation and deliverance from bondage really possible?”

The dictionary defines transformation as a “change in form, appearance, nature, or character.” God’s Word is very clear about our transformation as Believers:Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2, NLT).

Transformation takes place when you delight yourself in the Lord and allow Him to plant His desires in you (Psalm 37:4). When you act on sinful desires, it results in bad habits and addictions. God wants your desires to match His because, when they do, He will cause them to manifest in your life. True transformation occurs when God changes our wrong desires into godly desires. As I mentioned earlier, will power only goes so far. But when God changes you, you are truly transformed forever!

Delighting yourself in the Lord will bring forth deliverance (Psalm 22:8). To delight in the Lord is to remember His Word. Even in the midst of difficult and trying situations in life, you can respond in joy because you know what the Word says about those situations (Proverbs 8:30). You also delight yourself in the Lord when you give Him thanks in the midst of trials (Psalm 119:16).

At times, God will lead you through your desires. So delighting yourself in the Lord also means that you accept every experience in life as though God is trying to teach you something. He will give you desires you’ve never had in order to lead you to the place He wants you to be.

True transformation comes as you behold Christ. When you behold Him, the Holy Spirit transforms you into His very image.  “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

So if you’re struggling against some addiction or bad habit today, there is a way out! Because of Jesus, you are under grace. You can go to God with all your problems and flaws, and you won’t be turned away (Hebrews 10:19). You will be transformed.
