INVICTUS

June 14, 2011

In today’s passage, Paul writes to encourage his readers that whatever they have – power, authority, new life – they have it because of their relationship with Christ. When we accept Christ, we are empowered with the authority that He has in our lives. Romans 8:35
Invictus (Latin): unconquerable; spirit that cannot be conquered
God has given you the ability to be a conqueror with an invictus spirit, just as He is. Jesus understands pain, heartache, and trials; He went to cross and died for our sins! In developing a conquering spirit, He experienced fear, physical and spiritual pain, pressure, and finally reward.
Some of you are being pressed painfully in your marriages, finances, relationships, or work lives. As humans, we all experience these trials. But as Christians, we can respond with an authoritative, invictus spirit, pushing through the struggles with in faith and conquering them by these four concepts:
1. An unconquerable spirit has to be broken down in order to be built up.
This requires spiritual surgery.
Are there things in your life that you have refused to recognize as problematic? If left unhealed and unchanged, these can cause serious pain and damage. The healing process can be long and painful, but the time and pain is for a good and lasting purpose. You cannot conquer what you will not confront.
You cannot conquer what you will not confront.
2. An unconquerable spirit must go through unabandoned training.
This requires spiritual rehab – a process of building, addressing the weak areas and strengthening them.
For a picture to be put onto paper, it undergoes a development process. Light is captured through lens and burns image onto film, then the negatives are taken into the dark room. The image is then burned onto the paper and goes through a chemical process, all in the dark. If someone opens the door, the image is ruined.
God created us in His image (Genesis 1:26) and He is working to develop His image in us. God allows us to go into dark places because he wants to process and work out some things in us. God has an image that He wants to burn in you; He wants to use your life to glorify Himself. When it is finished, you will be a work of art that pleases Him.
Don’t fight the training. We want the reward, but we have to experience some processing to get there. If you are in that dark place today and being refined, it can be painful, but remember Psalm 37:25, I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. God is not going to leave you. He’s going to get you through it.
3. An unconquerable spirit must allow the old to become new.
This requires spiritual remix.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Paul adds that “behold” to say, “Pay attention!” The emphasis is on the new; God is remixing things. Justin Timberlake didn’t invent the remix – God did! By the cross, Jesus remixed death and changed everything.
You can overcome addiction, build new memories, have a new destiny, and experience new freedom in Jesus Christ just by allowing Him to remix you. Tell God, “Mix me up! I need change!” Believe Romans 8:35-39 and be more than a conqueror in Christ.
4. An unconquerable spirit must believe all things are possible.
This results in spiritual victory!
Believe that all things are possible through Him. As you try to step into your invictus moment, it will be the hardest step you’ve ever taken, but it’s always darkest just before dawn! God is all things to us, and He can make whatever changes need to be made. He has power with your checkbook, your job, your unbelieving family member, the healing you require, and anything that challenges you.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27
Have faith in the One who saves! Because He said it, we choose to believe it!
