DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT
I want to continue on with another ex-cert from my newest book that is available “Picking up the Pieces”. In this story you will find someone who is willing to do something to change the current situation. Remember the only one who can stop you IS YOU!
Looking ahead is the only way we can begin fresh; but we have to take steps. I like to say it this way; just do something positive. The Bible speaks of a young man by the name of David found 1 Samuels 17 who was willing to do something no one else was willing to do. He had been tending the sheep as well as taking food to the armies of Israel while they were in a battle with the Philistines when he discovered that Saul and his armies were faced with a dilemma concerning a giant by the name of Goliath who was a huge man ten feet tall his helmet and armor weighing 126 pounds, and he would stand on the other side of the hill and say why bother using your entire army to fight me why not pick your best fighter to fight me and if you win we will become your slaves and if we win you will become our slaves. This would take place for forty days and nights. As each day and night went by, Saul became more afraid and terrified that he and the armies of Israel would not do anything. It was their fear for the giant that paralyzed them from making any kind of decision. But David, however, refused to stand by and decided that he was going to something about it. It seemed as a foolish thing for a boy to do, after all he was a teenager and he was skinny, but that would not matter, he was willing to do something even if it meant to fail or maybe even loose his life. David would approach the king of Israel, Saul, and say, “I will go and fight.” But Saul would respond and say, “You are just a kid and the giant has been a warrior for so many years.” Haven’t we heard all of this before in our lives when we are facing giants in our lives? Well, David would not take no for an answer. He began to share about what he had already gone through while tending his father’s sheep. He killed a lion and a bear, and he goes on to say that this Philistine would be like one of them. And so, Saul finally said okay and handed him his armor, which was way to big for him, and David decided that he was going to have to do battle in a different of way. Since everyone is different, the approach for each person may differ from others when it comes to dealing with problems. Well, David decided to use a slingshot and five smooth stones and placed them in his bag. And as he stood there facing the giant, the giant was making fun of David looking at how small and young he was, thinking, Is this the best Israel has? David had spoke words of faith in his God saying, “This day the Lord will deliver thee into mine hand and I will kill you and cut your head off and feed your body to the bird.” And so the Philistine came toward David with a sword in his hand, and David began to run toward Goliath and the armies of the Philistines and reached in his bag and took and stone and slung it to kill Goliath with the stone which ended up being buried in his forehead, killing him. All of this was done without a sword; it was when the giant was already dead that David took Goliath’s sword out of his sheath and cut his head off. How many times have we been in what seems like an impossible situation and we have asked ourselves if God will be able to help us? Or do we allow fear to take over and cause us to miss our great moments of victory? Too many times people find themselves in what seem like hopeless situations that brings them to a place of questioning the Lord. Israel before David stepped forward also doubted asking, “Where is the Lord? We thought he was going to help us.” Too many times we expect God to do it all and we do nothing. God was waiting to see if they were going to take any steps of faith or not. If we are not moving, why would there have to be any movement by God? We have to give him a reason to move.
