Staying Positive in a Negative World Part 3 (Overcoming Attitude)
July 6th, 2009
It is always a challenge to have an overcoming attitude because of the tangible situations that we face each day. In order to obtain the promises that God has for us we have to learn how to have an overcoming attitude.
Throughout Scripture, we find many stories where a promise was given, and yet it wasn’t obtained because of negative attitudes. Many people think that everything that is promised comes without a challenge. In most every case in the Word of God, challenges would come each time that a promise or even a dreamed was pursued.
In Numbers 13, God promised the children of Israel the promised land in Canaan and with the promise of giving them the land he also promised that the thing within the land was good and available for them. God even sent scouts to go and check it out before they all crossed over into the land of Canaan. After scouting out the land for forty days, they returned and truly finding all that was told them; they found grapes and even brought grapes back, and they saw it was a land flowing with milk and honey. However, there was one problem that they discovered in this land; it had giants, and the cities had walls around them. They reported these things back to Moses along with the rest of the leadership, saying that they would not be able to conquer this land because of the obstacles that they had found in the land.
Out of the twelve that spied out the land ten of them said it could not be done; however, there were two, Caleb and Joshua, who said that they could take the land because God was with them, and, after all, God promised them the land, and he surely would help them to conquer whatever needed to be conquered. Caleb had the attitude of the conqueror, even though there were obstacles they had to be overcome in order to possess the land.
Every one of us can overcome our trials and tests by maintaining a positive attitude. A person will not be able to go any farther than they can see themselves going. Begin to see your dreams and expect for them to come to pass regardless of what obstacles you see before you. These obstacles are temporary until we find a way through or someone comes along to help us. They are opportunities for God to do something supernatural in your life.
Don’t let the giants or obstacles that you see stop you from obtaining what God has said is yours. I know so many people who talk themselves out of what God has said to them because of what they saw in the natural. We must hold fast to what God has said without allowing anything to talk us out of it. We also have to watch who we hang out with because people have a way to bring words of doubt giving opportunity for us to allow doubt and unbelief to come creeping.
Anytime that we stand on the Word of God and begin to step out in faith towards the things God has spoken, persecution is often experienced. The enemy knows that if you act on the Word of God and move toward the promises, you’ll enjoy the blessings of God and he does not want you to arrive in that place. If you maintain your faith in God, you will make it to your promised land.
